- Rotary Club Santa Cruz do Sul Oeste wants to help Hospital Santa Cruz to update their kitchen. It is be biggest hospital in town. As most of the patients are covered by the Government, at very low amounts, investments are difficult and always depend on the support of the community. Here the partner participates with approx US$7,000.
- Rotary Club Pelotas Centenário / Center for Treatment of Diabetes and Hypertension

- Objective: Buy equipments for treating and supporting the patients.

Established in 1958, the Hospital Universitário São Francisco de Paula (HUSFP, “Saint Francis of Paola’s University Hospital”) of the Universidade Católica de Pelotas (Pelotas Catholic University) has recently been broadening its services portfolio and qualifying its human and technical resources in order to develop while providing medical and hospital assistance to the population, regardless of social background, of the city of Pelotas and its region, an area which encompasses about 20 municipalities, some among which do not have a local hospital.
As of writing, the HUSFP has a total 874 employees and a clinical staff of professors/physicians, non-teaching physicians, and resident physicians who aim to provide the best possible care in four basic areas of medicine.
The hospital has 236 beds and it ranks as a hospital of reference in the South of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, a leading medical institution within the Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS, the Brazilian unified national health system). About 90% of all medical care sessions/episodes in the hospital are paid by the SUS federal health system. The hospital also provides care to the Pelotas municipal emergency medical services and Emergency Care Hospital (Pronto-Socorro de Pelotas), which is housed at the HUSFP and is run in partnership with the Pelotas municipality. The emergency medical services and the emergency care hospital also serve both Pelotas and its region. The Emergency Care Hospital has Level 2 Adult and Children’s Intensive Care Units and an Intermediate Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The HUSFP has a contract with the SUS federal health system and presently is responsible for the largest number of births among all hospitals in Pelotas and region. The hospital is accredited as a teaching hospital by the Brazilian Ministry of Health and the Brazilian Ministry of Education. It is also a Child-Friendly Hospital, recognized as such by both the Brazilian Ministry of Health and UNICEF and a hospital of reference for high-risk pregnancy care in the South of Rio Grande do Sul state, a status officially granted by a Rio Grande do Sul Department of Health directive in 2008.
The hospital has a Casa da Gestante (“Expectant Mother’s House”), a unit which provides support to the public health network by providing obstetric risk evaluations to pregnant women in need of clinical condition monitoring and/or fetal welfare assessment. It also runs the Mãe Canguru (Kangaroo Mother Care) program, a healthcare technique for low birth weight infants which involves continuous skin-to-skin contact between mother and her newborn baby in the neonatal care unit.

The "Casa do Amor Exigente" ("Demanding Love Home") is a private residential non-profit institution run by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The institution seeks to provide support to and rehabilitate adult males (eighteen years of age or older) from any part of Brazil who are psychoactive substance users or psychoactive substance-dependent (attested by a doctor's certificate) and are recovering from alcohol and/or drug addiction while undergoing a one-year residential inpatient treatment program. Their relatives are also offered weekly education sessions from the seventh month on. The project "Mente Iluminada" ("Englightened Mind", a name suggested by the inpatients themselves) aims at furnishing and equipping an existing room so as to allow the inpatients, their families, the institution’s support staff and sometimes invited guests better conditions to hold systematic weekly educational sessions (which currently already take place). The sessions include lectures, debates, testimonials, and so on. As soon as the grant becomes available, the room will be ready to hold the new phase of weekly sessions in about two months' time.

- Objective: Buy equipments to provide a computer room at a temporary home of abandoned children.
- Budget: 10 personal computers, complete with cabinet, keyboard, mouse, monitor, headphones, speakers, DVD burner and stabilizer 300 VA. A laser printer and a stabilizer 1000 VA. Total US$ 7.000

The temporary house of Venâncio Aires is a project of the Citizen Committee of Venâncio Aires and serves children in high degree of social vulnerability. These are children abandoned by parents or taken from parents due to social unrest as involvement with drugs, alcoholism, mental or sexual abuse. There are also cases where women suffer abuse from their partner and has nowhere to shelter. The children who come there just come out with a warrant, either to return to their families or for adoption by other families. All children have a psychological evaluation, medical and dental treatment. The house is a masonry building that includes office, living room, bathroom, pantry, dining room, kitchen, laundry room, two bedrooms, study room with library and educational games. To provide the children, has three social mothers and one administrator. The resources for maintenance of the house are achieved with the Municipality and community donations, especially the Rotary clubs of the city.

COPAME, the Pro-Amparo Community Children's Aid Association, is a non-profit NGO founded on October 30, 1984. In that year, a group of people from the Santa Cruz community, moved by their concern and commitment, planned and implemented a project with the local Department of Child Welfare. This initiative gave birth to COPAME, a shelter and home for abandoned or abused minors referred to us by the Department. The COPAME attend to the basic needs like Medical evaluation, Vaccines updates, Psychological therapy, Forwarding to special medical exams, Physiotherapy, forwarding to school, Dental Treatment, medical treatment, sport activities and architectural works.

- Objective: Buy equipments to teach the profession of Baker to poor drugs adicts in treatment, providing food and even a financial resources font.
- Budget: spiral kneading, molding bread, bread dividing, growth cabinet with 20 mats, gas oven with 8 treadmills, planetary mixer, drum, industrial stove 4 burner, stainless-topped table, topped table with two stainless tanks, electric fryer 7 liter, 4-door refrigerator industrial and industrial blender 4 liters . The Social Assistance Beneficent Evangelical Restoring Lives (ASBERV) led by Priest Marino Soares, works in Venancio Aires (RS) since 2006 and tries to get rid of drug addiction males aged 12 to 21 years. The work is developed in the neighborhood Coronel Brito, next to City Hostel. The ASBERV now serves 12 minors and has had 16 children in some times. "Per month 120 people are served, and in the winter, doubles the number of people between the shelter and recovery center, " said Soares. The recovery center is designed to lower drug addicts who live and remain there indefinitely until they recover. In the second and third phases, they are taken to school where they are monitored and supervised by a teacher until they can get rid of drugs, like crack what is becoming an epidemic. The ASBERV today also is serving 11 young people externally because they do not have the resources to put them inside the house. The greatest need today, as Soares is a suitable place to house these children. The organization has a small carpentry shop and a classroom for tutoring.

We are finalizing a pilot project this semester, and the idea is to continue, giving support to Hospital Ana Nery, a hospital specialized in oncology, so that they can continue to visit ladies in the countryside and in villages, in order to promote the education for the prevention practices, through talks, videos, and supplying free prevention exams such as cervical cancer prevention and breast cancer prevention. Our partner would participate with US$11,800. In one year, we would directly benefit approx seven hundred ladies, and lots of other ladies would be benefited through the visits, radio programs, newspapers news, which would promote the interest to prevent the breast cancer, for example, which is the number one as cause of deaths of women in the southern Brazil.

Supply equipments for the laundry, kitchen and ward of a home for the elderly called Residencial Bem Viver, being built in Santa Cruz do Sul, which will be a home for 50 people, and in a second stage to one hundred, and will also be a center for the elderly, with capacity for 350 people, for cultural, educational, health, artistic and social activities. This house is being built by AATI, a non profit organization. These resources are important to be able to open the place. All efforts are being made to open it in 2012. Here, also, the partner participates with US$11,800.

AATI needs ideas, support so that this home can be opened as soon as possible. The group of elderly has been working hard for 15 years. You will see some images in the blog. The kitchen is ready. Most of the expensive equipments have been purchased through a matching grant having RC of Ragusa as partner. Now they need dishes, cutlery, trays, glasses, shelves for the kitchen and for the laundry, washing machines and irons for the laundry, first aid instruments, medicine cabinet, cupboard for towels, etc. The home has been planned for 100 residents and 350 people using the conveniences center (its capacity).
- Rotary Club Santa Cruz do Sul Avenida has as main goal to find a partner to purchase a Liga Sure for Hospital Ana Nery, hospital located in the city of Santa Cruz do Sul. It is a regional non profit hospital. This equipment will enable safer oncological surgeries. There is an Oncology Cener located in this hospital. The international partner will participate with US$10,000.
- Rotary Club São Jerônimo also wants to purchase a car, for the civil defense of their city. They are located near a river and every year they have floods. There is not car available. Having a car for this purpose, it would be easier to remove people from the affected areas. It is a poor city, with no big industries, so resources are difficult to obtain. Here the partner participates with US$8,000.
- Rotary Club São Jerônimo also wants to purchase a car, for the civil defense of their city. They are located near a river and every year they have floods. There is not car available. Having a car for this purpose, it would be easier to remove people from the affected areas. It is a poor city, with no big industries, so resources are difficult to obtain. Here the partner participates with US$8,000.
- Rotary Club Rio Pardo Tranqueira Invicta wants to help APAE, a non profit organization located in Rio Pardo, having as main goal to give support to handicaped children. The idea is to provide them with equipments to evaluate the hearing capacity of handicaped children and poor people from the community. International partners woudl participate with US$10,000.
- Rotary Club Rio Pardo Tranqueira Invicta is also looking for a partner to help Hospital dos Passos, non profit hospital located in the city of Rio Pardo, providing them with 4 infusion pumps and 4 oximeters, to respectively monitor dosage of medicine and oxigen level of patients, during surgeries and other procecures. International partner would participate with US$5,000.
- Rotary Club Rio Pardo Tranqueira Invicta has also demand for a Martial Band maintained by a public school named Padre Broggi. Many of the band members belong to Interact. They require addicional musical instruments and uniforms. It is an important project for the community of Rio Pardo. International partners would participate with US$8,000, if possible. Another partnership is required to provide Padre Broggi school with phono and psycopedagogical professional services (third parties, not supplied by the government), in order to enable the students to achieve better results in terms of learning and relationships. In this project the international partner would participate with US$5,000 or more, if possible.
- Rotary Club Porto Alegre Floresta is looking for a partner for the purchase on an Intensive Care Ambulance for SAVE/Alvorada, non profit organization, to supply transport and emergency services specially in case of traffic traumas. A minimum of US$15,000 is required from the International Partner.
- Rotary Club Porto Alegre Glória-Teresópolis is looking for an international partner for a health project.
We are looking for an international partner for a matching grant on behalf of Hospital Espírita de Porto Alegre (http://www.hepa.org.br), private non profit organization located in the city of Porto Alegre, state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in order to provide better conditions for the treatment of poor psychiatric patients, especially for chemical dependence. This hospital is in activity since 1926, being a pioneer in psychiatric treatment. As most of the patients are poor, not affording the cost of the treatment, the hospital requires support for its maintenance, services and for the acquisition of tools and equipments. The patients are from the state of Rio Grande do Sul and even from other Brazilian states.
There are two projects, which can be combined, with adjustment of quantities, according to the availability of resources.
Project 1 - Acquisition of 100 beds and 100 mattresses - US$28,000.
Increase the number of beds of the hospital, which is always full. Replace damaged beds and mattresses.
Project 2 - Acquisition of 100 kits of towels, blankets, sheets and pillowcases - US$10,000.
For the new beds and also for replacement.
The international partner will participate with at least 1/3 of the total amount of the project.
A suggestion would be, for example, to purchase 50 beds and mattresses and the corresponding towels, blankets, sheets and pillowcases, amounting US$19,000.
The international partner would participate with approx US$6,400 or more, according to their possibility.
It would be of great help to the hospital and patients at a reasonable cost.
